Release baby turtles
he western coast of Sri Lanka hosts several different species of rare and endangered turtles every year. These flapping superstars come down to the beaches around Bentota and lay their eggs which are then takes to hatcheries near the shore. These hatcheries keep them safe till they are ready to head back to the ocean. So where do you come in? Visitors to the hatcheries get the incredible opportunity to release the baby turtles back into the ocean. You can join a bunch of volunteers as they head to the beach every evening after sundown to guide the babies back home. Who knows when one of them might grow up to be a teenage mutant ninja turtle?
Pick tea leaves
Nuwara Eliya, a picturesque town in the hills of central Sri Lanka, is an indelible part of Sri Lanka holidays. Spot a Leopard
Spotting the spotted beast in Yala National Park is an unforgettable experience and one of the top things to do in Sri Lanka. The park has the highest density of leopards in the world which make it easy to spot one on your safari along with jackals, monkeys, elephants, crocodiles, and monitor lizards.
Climb an ancient rock
Rising steeply above the flat plains of Dumbulla, Sigriya is often called the Eighth Wonder of the World. The summit of the 370m high rock was home to an imposing fortress and palace with ponds, fountains and sprawling gardens. A short hike up the rock will take you back in time to the fifth century when Sigiriya was the most powerful kingdom on the island. The walk up takes longer than it does to get a visa and the views will blow you away.
Get crabby
Sri Lanka has something we don’t; a ministry of crab. This iconic restaurant is a Lankan tour de force. It is a celebration of Lankan cuisine, and by extension, its culture.
